Publication: Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health
8 Juillet 2009

Abstract

This article presents a review of the literature on damaging experiences undergone by participants in groups. Although group intervention is a powerful instrument for personal and social change, incidents may occur that can cause individuals to experience negative feelings and perhaps even longerterm consequences. This literature review addresses factors associated with the group itself, with the workers, and with the individuals who had damaging experiences, as well as the consequences of such experiences. Implications for research and intervention are discussed.
