Publication: Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health
April 1988

Abstract

A model grid for analyzing different types of community intervention was developed so that the values and methodologies which characterize the four major approaches could be distinguished: clinical psychology, community mental health, community psychology, and public-policy psychology. Each of the four types is defined by the methods of intervention specific to that approach and the conceptual basis on which it has been developed. Examples are provided which demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of the grid. The strengths and weaknesses inherent to this instrument are presented as a point of reference for an exchange of ideas and the future development of the grid.
