Community Psychology and Community Mental Health: Conflict and Strategies

Abstract

The barriers to community psychology experienced in community mental health setting are discussed and suggestions made for alleviating professional frustration and for shaping organizational systems. It is suggested that professional associations should take a stronger role in supporting individual psychologists and in taking a public advocacy role.

Résumé

Les barrières épreuver par la psychologie communautaire dans les milieux de santé mental communautaire sont discutées, et des suggestions sont donées pour alléger la frustration professionnelle et pour façonner les systèmes organisateurs. Il est suggéré que les associations professionnelles devraient accepter un rôle plus vigoureux pour soutenir chaque psychologiste et prendre le rôle d'avocat publique.
