Être « Beaux-Grands-Parents » Au Sein des Familles Recomposées? L'exemple des « Belles-Grands-Mères »

Publication: Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health
January 2002

Abstract

Very little attention has yet been paid to the place of grandparents and stepgrandparents within stepfamilies, even though this new kind of family organization highlights the complexity of kinship systems. Thanks to recent studies, grandparental functions are beginning to be better understood. Still, as we demonstrate, both the media and specialists in the field represent grandparents and stepgrandparents in stepfamilies in a reductive way. Then, using semi-directive interviews and examining the question of appellation, we discuss the specific identity of stepgrandmothers.
